Dining Plans

IMPORTANT NOTE


All freshmen students living in on-campus housing must choose from Options 1-4 for both fall and spring semesters to meet the First Year Resident Requirements. Option 2 is the default options if the student does not request a change by the end of the 2nd week of classes each semester. 


All upperclassmen students living on-campus in North Campus or Charger Village Residence Halls may choose from Options 1-5 or 7-8 to meet the Upperclassmen Resident Requirements for fall and spring semesters.


All upperclassmen students living on-campus in Southeast Campus or Greek Housing may choose from Options 1-8, with Option 6 being the default plan for fall and spring semesters.


All full-time students not living on-campus may choose from Options 1-8, with Option 6 being the default plan for fall and spring semesters.

2015 - 2016 Plan Options


Option # 1 - $1460

19 Meals per week plus $125 Charger Bucks per Semester
This option meets the First-Year Residents' Requirement.


Option #1 provides 19 meals per week. 19 meals allow you to eat each and every meal served in the Charger Cafe or in Sandella's throughout the week!

If, on occasion, you wish to dine elsewhere, this plan includes $125 in Charger Bucks that can be used for purchases at Chick-fil-A, Papa John's, Sandella's, Charger Brew, Dunkin' Donuts, World of Wings, the C-Store, or the Gardenview Cafe. 



Option # 2 - $1460

14 Meals per week plus $225 Charger Bucks per Semester
This option meets the First-Year Residents' Requirement.


Option #2 provides 14 meals per week. As our most popular meal plan, 14 meals even out to 2 meals a day to be used in the Charger Cafe or Sandella's, perfect for hungry residents on the go!

Of course, #2 provides more Charger Bucks - giving students more flexibility and spending power when it comes to our resident and retail dining options: Chick-fil-A, Papa John's, Sandella's, Charger Brew, Dunkin' Donuts, World of Wings, the C-Store, and the Gardenview Cafe! 


This is the default option for the meal plan requirement for all freshmen students living in on-campus housing should students not request a change by the end of the 2nd week of classes each semester.



Option # 3 - $1460

8 Meals per week plus $375 Charger Bucks per Semester
This option meets the First-Year Residents' Requirement.


Option #3 provides 8 meals per week. Planning to eat at more retail locations? Need a take-out option for lunch? This is the plan for you!

Option #3 still gives students a meal per day in the Charger Cafe or in Sandella's, as well as $375 in Charger Bucks to spend at Chick-fil-A, Papa John's, Sandella's, Charger Brew, Dunkin' Donuts, World of Wings, the C-Store, and the Gardenview Cafe!



Option # 4 - $1460

85 Meals per Semester plus $625 Charger Bucks per Semester 
This option meets the First-Year Residents' Requirement.


Option #4 provides 85 pre-paid meals per semester in the Charger Cafe or in Sandella's. No meal limitation is set for the number of meals purchased at any given period. These meals reset at the end of each semester.

With the most Charger Bucks of any plan, this option provides the student with maximum flexibility and spending power at Chick-fil-A, Papa John's, Sandella's, Charger Brew, Dunkin' Donuts, World of Wings, the C-Store, and the Gardenview Cafe!



Option # 5 - $490

490 Dining Dollars per semester
This option meets the Upperclassmen Resident's Requirement.


Option #5 provides $490 in Dining Dollars to be used at Chick-fil-A, Papa John's, Sandella's, Charger Brew, the Charger Cafe, Dunkin' Donuts, World of Wings, the C-Store, and the Gardenview Cafe. Unlike Charger Bucks, Dining Dollar Funds roll over from the fall to spring semester and expire at the end of each spring semester. 


This is the default option for the meal plan requirement for Upperclassmen living in on-campus housing in North Campus or Charger Village Residence should a student not request a change or decide to choose a meal plan of greater value by the end of the 2nd week of classes each semester.



Option # 6 - $285

285 Dining Dollars per semester
This option meets the off-campus students', SECH, and FRSO Residents' Requirement.


Option #6 provides $285 Dining Dollars that can be used at any on-campus dining location including Chick-fil-A, Papa John's, Sandella's, Charger Brew, the Charger Cafe, Dunkin' Donuts, World of Wings, the C-Store, and the Gardenview Cafe. Dining Dollar Funds roll over from fall to spring semester and expire at the end of the academic year.


This is the default option for the meal plan requirement for students living in on-campus housing in Southeast Campus or Greek Housing should students not request a change by the end of the 2nd week of classes each semester.


This is the default option for the meal plan requirement for full-time students not living on-campus should students not request a change or decided to choose a meal plan of greater value by the end of the 2nd week of classes each semester.



Option # 7 - $530

5 Meals per week plus $150 Charger Bucks per Semester
This option meets the Upperclassmen Resident's Requirement, the off-campus students', SECH, and FRSO Residents' Requirement.


Option #7 provides 5 meals per week in the Charger Cafe plus $150 worth of Charger Bucks to be used at any on-campus dining location including: Chick-fil-A, Papa John's Sandella's Charger Brew, Dunkin' Donuts, World of Wings, the C-Store, and the Gardenview Cafe. Meals and Charger Bucks reset at the end of each semester.



 Option # 8 - $530

70 Meals per Semester plus $150 Charger Bucks / Semester 
This option meets the Upperclassmen Resident's Requirement, the off-campus students', SECH, and FRSO Residents' Requirement.


Option #10 provides 70 meals in the Charger Cafe plus $150 worth of Charger Bucks to use in any of on-campus dining locations including: Chick-fil-A, Papa John's, Sandella's, Charger Brew, Dunkin' Donuts, World of Wings, the C-Store and the Gardenview Cafe. Meals and Charger Bucks reset at the end of each semester. Get the most bang for your buck with this plan!





The Basics

More about your meal plan...

Meals: Meals Swipes may only be used in the Charger Cafe and Sandella's. One meal unit may be used per dining period (breakfast, lunch, & dinner) if your plan has a weekly reset. If your plan has a semester reset, a maximum of two (2) swipes may be used per meal period at Sandella's. All meal swipes expire at the end of each semester.


Charger Bucks: Charger Bucks are additional funds associated with the meal plan accounts. Charger Bucks act as a declining balance and can be used at any dining facility associated with UAHuntsville Dining Services: Chick-fil-A, Papa John's, Sandella's, Charger Brew, the Charger Cafe, Dunkin Donuts, WOW and the Gardenview Cafe. Funds expire at the end of each semester with their corresponding meal plan.


Dining Dollars: Dining Dollars are a declining balance that can be used at any dining facility associated with UAHuntsville Dining Services: Chick-fil-A, Papa John's, Sandella's, Charger Brew, the Charger Cafe, Dunkin Donuts, WOW and the Gardenview Cafe. Dining Dollars carry over from fall to spring semester and expire at the end of the spring semester. You may add Dining Dollars to any meal plan in 50 dollar increments - for more information contract Charger Card Operations!


Flex: Flex Dollars are a declining balance account that can be used at all on-campus dining locations. These funds never expire as long as a student account exists with the University.

Important Info

Charger Card

Students may obtain their Charger Card by coming to the Charger Union, room 131, from 8:30 to 5:00 Monday through Friday. Please bring a current copy of your schedule and a picture ID (driver's license) with you. You can get a copy of your schedule from Charger Central, located in room 118 in the University Center.

As your official identification card, the Charger Card will give you access to campus facilities and services as well as making purchases at participating locations. You will use your card for access to:

  • Spragins Hall Recreation Facilities
  • Athletic Events
  • Salmon Library (in order to check out books)
  • Wellness Center
  • Residence Halls
  • Computer Labs/Info Services
  • Campus Entertainment Events
  • Copy Machines
  • Food Service Vendors

Charger Card Accounts

Opening an account is free - there are no service fees. Currently there are four (4) types of Charger Card accounts: Dining Dollars, Charger Bucks, Meal Plans, and Flex Account.

Making Deposits

Money may be added to any of your Charger Card accounts with cash, check, or credit card. Deposits are accepted in the University Center's Cashier's Office (UC 213) between the hours of 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Credit card numbers may be taken by phone at (256) 824-6226. Checks may be mailed; please add the student's "A" number to the check and mail it to:
